The name rhinoceros means "nose horn".
Rhinoceros live in Asia and Africa. There are five different types of rhinoceros: White Rhinoceros, Black Rhinoceros, Indian Rhinoceros, Javan Rhinoceros and Sumatran Rhinoceros.
The closest rhinos' relatives are tapirs, horses and zebras. They are odd-toed ungulates.
Rhinos can run very fast, up to 40 miles per hour.
They have poor eyesight, but very well senses of smell and hearing.
The Black Rhinoceros, Sumatran Rhinoceros and Javan Rhinoceros are all critically endangered. They can extinct in three generations!!!
Rhinos exist about 50 million years! Because their horns are used in Asian medicine, rhinos have been hunted nearly to extinction. The rhino horn is made from keratin. It is not a bone.
The Javan Rhinoceros is the worlds rarest land mammal.
Some rhinos have been de-horned to make them worthless to hunters.
There is a lot of work needed to bring back their population.
